I was only 10 years old at the time
but I will always have fond memories of rehearsing backstage, making
new friends, being a baby duck (I was in the Red Team) on Mrs McDonald’s
farm, the baked bean tin tree and the Giant. The Giant actually
gave me a fright, because he came out and took a bow on the last
night, he was huge!!
I still have Jack's rocket plans
and the Giants money bag with a coin inside which was kindly given
to me. I also have a very worn and well read script with some autographs
on it, a photo of David Learner who played Jack with the five others
in my team and an enlarged black and white photo of our team in
our costumes minus heads.
Everybody was so friendly, you knew
you were there to work but had the most fun and amazing time doing
it!! My mum helped chaperone as I know lots of other mums did. But
my mum had to tell John Halstead one night that I had performed
the whole show in front of the family, doing everybody’s part
word for word and song for song. Sufficed to say, he was extremely
impressed and couldn't quite believe it!!
I would really like to thank the
theatre for the great ten weeks that I had during Pantomime in 1982.
