Lizzie Keeble-WatsonLizzie was brought up in Hornchurch and now lives in Chelmsford. Her first memory of being on the stage was at the age of 6 when she performed with Bubble Theatre Company in their production of Caucasian Chalk Circle.

Lizzie has done a variety of roles at the theatre from Stage Door, Box Office, Chaperone, Follow Spot, Assistant Youth Tutor, ASM (Assistant Stage Manager), Technician and now Education Officer!

Lizzie took a BETEC in performing arts where one of her favourite memories was devising and performing a TIE show called Jitterbug Kid for the local primary schools. She started work here as a Chaperone on Pantomime. She was a member of the Queen's Youth Group. When she became too old she was asked to become an Assistant Tutor. She also taught drama at LA 2000 drama school before going to study at RADA. Here, she got to learn about all aspects in theatre and to take on some of the different roles for their productions. Her most enjoyable role was on ‘The Lovers’ where she took on the role of Stage Manager, Lighting Designer and Set Designer!

Questions and Answers with Lizzie

What do you do?
I’m the Education Officer. I work with youth of all ages.

How long have you been at it?
I have just started in this role.

What was your very first role in theatre?
I was part of the Youth Theatre when it started up again in 1996 and from there I became an Assistant Tutor.

What else have you done in theatre?
I have always preferred to be behind the scenes rather than being a performer. I have done lots of different roles from FOH to being the sound operator on several musicals here like Keep on Running and Alice on the Underground.

Have you got qualifications?
I have a BTEC Performing Arts from Barking College and also went to RADA where I gained a Degree in Technical Theatre & Stage Management.

What did you do before you worked in theatre?
I had a 9-5 job in a marketing department for a stock broker. However I couldn’t keep away from theatre and helped out at Brentwood Theatre in the evenings and I worked as a teacher at a drama school on Saturday mornings.

How did you make the move to working in theatre?
An opportunity came up to go to Drama School so I thought lets go for it.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
A Technician.

What do you do all day?
I do everything from answering phone queries and writing letters to going out to schools to do drama workshops, planning and teaching youth theatre sessions and organising fun things for our youth theatre to do. I also coordinate our work experience programme, run backstage tours, the list goes on….

What’s the best thing about your job?
Every day is different!

And the worst?
Sometimes working long, long, long hours!

What’s your dream job in theatre?
Production Manager.

Got any wise words for someone who wants to be where you are now?
Anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
