samantha lane
education and outreach manager
(2002 - November 2004)
After
completing a degree in Theatre and Performance Studies at the University
of Warwick, Samantha spent six months working as a speech and drama trainer
in Singapore. This work involved running Youth Drama Projects in local
schools, as well as extra-curricular drama courses for children and adults.
On returning to the
UK, she taught English and Drama for one year at Hayes Secondary School
in Bromley, Kent, teaching both subjects at Key Stage 3 and 4. She then
worked for two years running the Drama Department at Sackville School
in Hildenborough, Kent. Here she managed the department, wrote all department
procedure, devised schemes of work for all year groups and taught all
key stages. She also ran an extensive extra curricular drama programme
and directed numerous school plays. Samantha gained Qualified Teacher
Status and a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) whilst training
on the job. In her spare time, she also worked as a freelance drama tutor
for various organisations, including the sole teaching of Stag Youth Theatre
at the Stag Theatre in Sevenoaks.
Samantha began her
career as Education and Outreach Manager at the Queen’s Theatre
in July 2002. During her time at the theatre the department doubled in
size - expanding to 5 Youth groups and touring 4 Theatre in Education
shows each year, to both the primary and secondary sectors. Samantha also
piloted the Producing Theatre Course, a project designed to nurture 2
School-based Theatre Companies each year by teaching practical theatre
skills and providing a platform for performance. She also directed 2 community
plays - Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones
and Me! and The Path
of the Brave.
Samantha left the
Queen's Theatre in November 2004.
