Scamp
Theatre present the Bristol Old Vic production ofprivate peaceful by Michael Morpurgo adapted and directed by Simon Reade Saturday 10 November 2007 | 2pm all tickets £9 A rousing First World War story for the whole family, young and old (suitable for ages 8 and over). The winning novel of the Blue Peter Children’s Book of the Year has been brought to life in this remarkable, award-winning stage production which comes to the Queen’s following a sell-out tour and West End run. Private Peaceful relives the life of Private Tommo Peaceful, a young First World War soldier awaiting the firing squad at dawn. During the night he looks back at his short but joyful past growing up in rural Devon: his exciting first days at school; the accident in the forest that killed his father; his adventures with Molly, the love of his life; and the battles and injustices of war that brought him to the front line.
“The
horrors of war and the joyfulness of life are bound up together
in this magnificent one-man show….An extraordinary performance.” “An
infinitely touching, intensely acted account of a young First
World War Soldier’s final day.” “Morpurgo’s
magic, a masterly adaptation by Simon Reade .... This is one hour
of your own life you will never forget.” Images by kind permission of The Imperial War Museum |
