new writing programme

The Queen’s Theatre's New Writing programme is packed with opportunities for aspiring playwrights. See below for more details or contact education@queens-theatre.co.uk

new writing awards scheme
This biennial award provides aspiring local playwrights with the opportunity to produce a full length play for performance at the Queen's as part of our writenow! festival, which was last held in September 2007. Award winners receive a bursary, are mentored by one of our literary associates and have the opportunity to attend rehearsals and Queen’s Theatre productions.

- The winners for 2004/5 were: Pauline Hannah, Dave Hill and Phil Clements - writenow! 2005
- The winners for 2006/7 were: Kath Sayer and Vivienne Allen and Leo Richardson - writenow! 2007

Stay tuned for more details about the Queen's Theatre New Writing Award for 2008/09.

writenight!

A laid-back evening of rehearsed readings on the foyer stage.

writenight! is a great opportunity to work with the Queen’s resident professional team and see your play performed in front of an audience. So if you’ve written a play, why not submit it to the Queen’s Theatre and it may be selected.

writers' networking group
A social group for playwrights of all ages and levels of ability. This usually takes place on the first Monday of every month. It gives writers the opportunity to meet, share ideas and discuss and workshop their work. The Queen’s Theatre also provides this group with the opportunity to showcase their work on our foyer stage.

The next writers’ group showcase evening is on Wednesday 24 September | 8pm | £3
