Olivia Twist - sold out

by Jim Bywater

Put healthy eating centre stage!

This interactive production uses theatre to explore the issue of healthy eating. It is designed to support schools in their efforts to challenge childrens’ perceptions about food and develop their confidence with new food.

Olivia Twist is a young orphan girl who wants more excitement and energy in her life. She is the new student at a boarding school where the dinner menu makes it difficult for her and her fellow students to concentrate.

A frustrated and disheartened Olivia sets out on a journey of discovery and, with the help of a host of interesting characters, she learns there is more to life than junk food.

Returning to her school with renewed energy and enthusiasm, Olivia seeks to teach others what it means to be part of a healthy school and enjoy the ‘event’ of eating.

What you thought...

"I enjoyed the high quality input of educational material, audience participation and the strong health message. I believe that it has made them think a little more and every little bit helps. We are having a strong focus on health and this has boosted interest and motivation. The children’s obvious enjoyment means they feel positive about the message. The children were amazed at how quickly the food was cooked and how tasty it was. They may be less inhibited about trying new ideas in cooking. We are doing quite a bit of follow-up work and they are very motivated by what they have seen." - Class Teacher, Lubbins Park School

"It was pitched at the right level for the children - good humour - good cooking. It has made them think and will promote good opportunities for further work and discussion. For some of them, it will have introduced them to ingredients previously unknown." - Class Teacher, The RJ Mitchell Primary School

"I enjoyed the versatility of the actors, the humour in the script and the cookery demonstration. The message was put across in an entertaining and informative way. It reinforced what we have learnt in science this term -healthy eating and hygiene. The bullying issues fitted well with our work in PSHE and we have also been writing and acting in our own plays in literacy about bullying. The cross curricular links were perfect! Many thanks." - Class Teacher, Plumberow Primary School

Noak Bridge School rated excellent on relevance for year group, on participants’ attention, on facilitator's relationship with students and educational value.

"The children were educated about the importance of healthy eating in a lively memorable way. Involving the children in the interactive shopping list broadened their understanding." - Class Teacher

Sunnymede Junior School rated excellent on relevance for year group, on participants’ attention, on facilitator's relationship with students and educational value.

"I enjoyed the excellent pace, humour and educational value. Superbly well presented! Excellent Teachers’ pack which we will use often. Please let us know when the next tour will be as we want you back for our lower school to see." - Class Teacher
