We’re excited to be hosting a National Social Prescribing Day on Thursday 9 March.
National Social Prescribing Day is an annual celebration of social prescribing which recognises Social Care workers, local community groups, and organisations which support people’s health and wellbeing. ‘Social prescribing’ is the term used when GPs, carers and other health care professionals refer their patients to a range of local, non-clinical services.
This year, we are hosting Havering’s event to share ideas and highlight the impact of social prescribing on people and communities. Together, we want to raise awareness of social prescribing and give groups from our local areas the opportunity to showcase their importance and demonstrate the amazing impact it can have on people’s health and wellbeing. For more information about social prescribing, visit https://www.socialprescribingnetwork.com
This event will be a great opportunity for local groups to gather at Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch, network with and meet other local groups, start conversations, and form new relationships. We’re aiming to bring together as many organisations that champion pairing health and healing with the creative arts.
“We’re excited to be hosting our first Social Prescribing day, celebrating the many Havering based community organisations that have been coming together to raise the profile of creative health activity within the borough. We hope this is the first of many new projects to be developed by the network, and are looking forward to trying out some of the demonstrations and new experiences on offer today.” James Watson, Head of Learning and Participation
A huge range of groups from all over Havering have been invited to the event; from social clubs for those over 50, to drama groups, sports clubs, and knitting groups.
On the day, attendees can get involved with some taster workshops showcasing just some of the creative opportunities offered through organisations across the borough, including Therapeutic art (zentamgles, mandalas and neurographic art!) demonstrated by Di’s Diamonds, inclusive drama activities showcased by Habbit Factory, and Tiny Plays creative writing workshop hosted by Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch.

9:30am – 10am – Informal brunch and networking
10am – 12 noon – Get involved! Short activity demonstrations from a range of groups (we would love for everyone to take part)
