Our Communities programme includes lots of opportunities for both students and teachers. We offer a wide range of bespoke workshops, production specific events, Work Experience, backstage tours, and touring shows for both Primary and Secondary schools.
Schools Touring
As well as regularly touring our own productions to local schools, our Theatre Nation Partnership (working with the National Theatre) has allowed us to take National Theatre productions into Secondary Schools in Outer East London and South Essex. In 2023, Shut Up, I’m Dreaming! By The PappyShow was performed to over 850 Havering students in their school halls.
Theatre Visits
We offer heavily discounted tickets to our professional Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch productions for school and student groups. We also arrange Q&A’s and introductions to the casts of our produced shows for schools and colleges. To find out more, contact our Box Office team.
Backstage Tours
From our scenic workshops to wardrobe department, take a peek behind the scenes at one of the country’s few remaining producing theatres to find out just what goes into creating professional theatre.
Backstage tours can be booked for groups up to 30 participants, are suitable for Primary and Secondary age groups and last one hour. We ask for a minimum donation of £30 per tour.
Schools Workshops
We can offer a range of workshops focusing on a variety of performance and technical skills, practitioners and genres of theatre. If you have a particular workshop in mind for your school, or would like to learn more, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Work Experience (Secondary)
Every year, the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch offers up to fifteen students the opportunity to take part in a work experience programme designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the workings of a producing theatre before furthering or continuing their studies, or seeing employment in their chosen field.

“I just wanted to say a big thank you for the Shakespeare day. The Y6 teaching staff spoke to me about how much the children benefited from the day and your morning session was great to get the children excited about learning!”
