We are looking for an innovative, forward-thinking individual to join Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch as Chair of the Board of Trustees and help shape the next chapter in our history.

Our new Chair will lead a committed Board and work alongside our talented executive team, helping us grow our impact, strengthen our resilience and further deepen our connection with local communities.
As an award-winning producing theatre serving Outer East London and South Essex, we provide a focal point for a community of over one million people. Each year, over 220,000 people engage with our programme through home-grown theatre, visiting live entertainment and inspiring community projects.
This is a significant moment for QTH as we approach our 75th anniversary. We are seeking someone who is as ambitious as the theatre itself and who shares our belief in the value of culture.
The Chair will provide leadership to the Board, support the relationship between Trustees and staff, work with the executive team to implement the theatre’s vision and help ensure strong governance and financial oversight.
They will also act as line manager for the Chief Executive, lead the recruitment process for a permanent Chief Executive and represent QTH with funding bodies, stakeholders and the local community.
We are looking for someone with:
- – a deep passion for the arts and the mission and values of Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch
- – a proven track record of strategic thinking and experience in chairing or leading within an established organisation
- – a strong understanding of charity governance
- – excellent interpersonal skills and the confidence to constructively challenge both the Board and the Chief Executive
- – a commitment to broadening the diversity of our workforce and Board
- – the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
Knowledge of and interest in the communities of Hornchurch, East London and South Essex would be desirable.

Reasonable expenses paid
Time commitment: Approximately 2–3 days per month
