At Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch we present the highest quality in live performance by established performers from all round the UK but we also actively nurture the work of emerging and independent theatre makers on our doorstep.
Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch’s talent development programme, Outer Limits, connects with regional professional artists, reaching 1,700 each year, now internationally too through Future Laboratory, in partnership with 12 European theatres. Essex on Stage is QTH’s ambitious programme championing positive notions of Essex & raising aspirations for working class artists, made possible through the 2018 Clothworkers’ Foundation Theatre Award, launched with the regional premiere of David Eldridge’s In Basildon.
Situated in the borough with the 4th lowest arts engagement in London, and as the 11th fastest changing in the country, we secured £1 million of Creative People and Places funding towards Havering Changing, a partnership of 8 local organisations engaging local people in culture. We are leading new local cultural education and creative health voluntary sector partnerships. Each year an astonishing 45% of our audience are new to the Theatre and 61% are from under served areas.
Outer Limits
If you’re a performance-maker living, working or from Essex or Outer East London, we’re here to offer you a range of support. By joining our mailing list, you’ll be the first to find out about performance and networking opportunities and by being a member, you can access free rehearsal space and advice – ranging from help with funding applications to dramaturgical assistance.

Writer’s Networking Group
We host a members’ run social group for playwrights of all ages and levels of ability.
This usually takes place on the first Saturday of every month in our foyer. It gives writers the opportunity to meet, share ideas and discuss and workshop their work. Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch also provides this group with the opportunity to showcase their work on The Other Stage.

Ed Keates is a professional actor and writer. He has appeared on stage and screen, likes chocolate and chips, but not on the same plate. He is a member of the ELE (East London & Essex Writing Group) which meets monthly at Queen’s Theatre. His short film It’s Over? was nominated for the Havering Award at last year’s Romford Film Festival and he’s currently working on his 2nd screenplay.
