Fantastic theatre in a van… parked on the Green!
Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch is thrilled to welcome The Last Post – a fantastically inventive play performed in a post van on the Green this Sunday 24 July at 2pm and 5pm.
This first class theatrical delivery is presented by the award-winning Kilter Theatre company in the intimate and fascinating surroundings of a ‘Vanatorium’ on the Queen’s Theatre Green. Audiences had better book fast though – there is space for only 18 bums on seats per show!
Everyone is invited to climb aboard Mobile Sorting Office (MSO) 451 – a converted post van filled with vintage letter writing kits that travels across the UK.
Audience members will have the opportunity to cosy up for an hour of beautiful story-telling theatre with live music and witness the curious and comic love story of Red, a redundant Post Master and Verity, the irrepressible heiress of a pen-pal agency. Suitable for ages 10 and over, this is also the perfect way to kick-start the summer holiday fun!
After the show, audiences get the chance to rummage through the archives, chat with the cast or hop on a typewriter to write a letter to a long lost loved one or to a new friend by way of Friends for Pens, the real international pen-palling agency generated by the show with over 250 members.
Kilter, which creates theatre about the changing environment and the uncertainty of the future, believes that thoughtful, slower communication can lead to healthier, happier lives.
Oliver Langdon, Artistic Director for Kilter Theatre says: “Our Mobile Theatre has been hosting our performances of The Last Post and recruiting letter-writers for our Pen Pal Agency, Friends for Pens, all over the South of England since 2012. We are really excited to come to the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch and share our work, making connections with audiences and imaginative people who appreciate that good things, in small packages, come to those who wait!”
The Last Post heralds an inventive, innovative new season from the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch and starts the Queen’s Outer Limits programme – a new rolling festival of exciting and original performances created by artists from Essex and the outskirts of London.
Tickets are just £6. Call the Box Office on 01708 443333 or book online.
