Join us in person On The Beach at the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch or online for an immersive, sensory skill share for creative practitioners, family and professional carers, and support workers. Whether you are just learning about sensory practice or have been working this way for some time, we hope you’ll enjoy meeting some of the makers of On The Beach and developing your understanding of sensory work in a 2 hour practical session.
On The Beach has been created with and for people living with dementia and also with learning disabled people. In this session, we will share experience and experiment in the room (both physical and virtual) using the environment and the inspirations of the show as our jumping off point to explore sensory creativity. There will also be space to ask any questions you have and to explore areas that you are keen to learn more about.
If you are joining us remotely, we ask you to be in a space you can move around in, and to have to hand some easily found sensory materials to interact with during the session (we’ll send you a short list in advance).
We’re always seeking to develop our inclusive hybrid practice. We aim to have interaction between all participants, so if you’re attending in person, be prepared to experiment both in the room and with the participants online. Equally, if joining online, please be prepared for direct interaction with the group in the room.
Please let us know in advance of any access requirements you may have by contacting Lara in advance at projects@sparetyre.org
This unique retelling of Dickens’ heart-warming tale uses an array of traditional and modern instruments and authentic musical arrangements. It brims with warmth, wit and wonder.
Modern-day balladeers GreenMatthews take the well-loved festive adventure back to its Victorian fireside roots, painting a vivid and evocative picture of Dickens’ world. Chris Green (voice, guitar, mandocello, piano), Sophie Matthews (voice, flute, English border bagpipes) and special guest Jude Rees (voice, oboe, melodeon) use a magical blend of new lyrics, traditional midwinter English folk tunes and carol melodies to illustrate the transformation of flinty-hearted Ebenezer Scrooge into the epitome of the Christmas spirit – warm-hearted, generous and loving. Uplifting and melodic, GreenMatthews’ A Christmas Carol perfectly recaptures the simple Yuletide delights of fellowship, laughter and good cheer.
